Creative Connection

I was teaching three grades and feeling entirely burnt out. Long school days and longer emails seemed to be missing the entire reason I got into the teaching field.

Thankfully, as I stepped out of one space, I had just the right people and influences to send me into a journey of big magic and deep connection.

How can you find creative community?

  1. Resources - I read The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron and Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert. These two books sent me on a journey of reconnecting with my inner child. Journaling daily, getting outside, finding a million ways to be creative.

  2. Online - I started following Instagram accounts that were life-giving and inspiring. I would reach out to fellow creatives and ask for ideas.

  3. Friendships - I found other friends were on similar journeys. A friend shared a love of Taylor Swift lyrics and we started writing our own songs. Another friend in a different creative field was also in a space of being stuck, so we started meeting to help expand our ideas. A cousin reconnected in a way to inspire a way to start my own business.

In learning and teaching piano, it is important to find others to walk the journey with you, even if they are not learning it themselves. Find online inspiration, listen to music that makes you feel alive, tell friends about your piano journey, and know that you’re part of a deep, beautiful community of creative souls.
